Steps:
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil on the stove top. Liberally salt the water after it starts to boil. (It's said that you should make pasta water like the ocean before cooking pasta). Add in dry pasta and cook for 12 minutes. Drain cooked pasta and set aside. While pasta is cooking, cubed cheese into tiny piece and dice ham into bite sized pieces. When pasta is done cooking and drained, stir in the ham, but let the pasta cool slightly before adding in the cheese as you don't want to melt it. Stir in the Italian dressing and make sure to stir until all is coated. I like to have an extra bottle on hand to drizzle over the pasta salad right before I serve it. Put pasta salad into the fridge for a few hours or until cold before serving. I like it better once it\'s set over night, it always taste better the next day but may need more dressing drizzled over it after it\'s set in the fridge overnight.

I never seem to make enough of this salad. When people see the recipe, they look at me as if I am a little odd...but when they eat it they can't seem to stop! This recipe is great for kids and adults alike. The garlic is optional. Also, to lighten up the salad, substitute light mayonnaise, light sour cream, and turkey ham.

HAM PASTA SALAD
I "invented" this salad as I went along...it's a combination of various pasta salad recipes I'd seen. It can be served as a side dish, of course. In summer, however, my husband doesn't care for hot meals, so I make it as a main dish. We're recent city transplants with two young children, ages 6 and 3.

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Look for fresh vegetables, flavorful cheese, and a good-quality ham.
- If you don't have time to make the dressing ahead of time, you can use a store-bought Italian dressing. However, the homemade dressing is definitely worth the extra effort.
- Don't overcrowd the salad. If you are using a large bowl, use two smaller bowls instead. This will help to prevent the salad from becoming soggy.
- Serve the salad immediately after dressing it. This will help to prevent the lettuce from wilting.
Conclusion:
This Italian Ham and Cheese Salad is a delicious and refreshing side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal preferences. So next time you are looking for a light and flavorful salad, give this one a try. You won't be disappointed!
