PEPPER JACK MEAT LOAF RECIPE - (4/5)

Pepper Jack Meat Loaf Recipe - (4/5) image

Provided by Jomamma

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb ground beef, turkey or chicken
1 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup onion, diced
1 cup oatmeal or crumbled saltine cracker
2 eggs
2 cups pepper jack cheese shredded
1/4 cup ketchup
1/8 tsp chili powder
Salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a loaf pan. Mix meat, celery, onion, oatmeal or crackers, eggs together well. Press half of the meat mixture into prepared loaf pan. Place cheese over meat mixture. Top with remaining meat mixture and press down to seal. Spread ketchup over top of meat loaf...sprinkle with chili powder, salt and pepper. Bake, covered lightly with foil, for 30 minutes. Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees F, remove cover and continue to bake for 20 minutes or until edges are bubbling and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let sit for 5 minutes then slice and serve.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ground beef: The type of ground beef you use will greatly impact the flavor of your meatloaf. Opt for a blend of chuck and sirloin, which will provide a good balance of flavor and texture.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf mixture: Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Use bread crumbs or crackers for a binder: Bread crumbs or crackers help to bind the meatloaf mixture together and prevent it from falling apart.
  • Add vegetables to the meatloaf mixture: Vegetables such as onions, celery, and carrots add flavor and texture to the meatloaf.
  • Season the meatloaf mixture well: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are essential seasonings for meatloaf. You can also add other herbs and spices to your taste.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: After baking, let the meatloaf rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will help it to retain its juices and prevent it from falling apart.

Conclusion:

Jack's meatloaf is a classic comfort food dish that is easy to make and always a hit with the family. With its simple ingredients and delicious flavor, it's no wonder that this recipe has been passed down for generations. Whether you're a beginner cook or a seasoned pro, you'll find that Jack's meatloaf is a recipe that you'll turn to time and time again.
