Caramel Sauce for Apple Quick Bread

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour a 5-by-9-inch loaf pan. Whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Mix together oil and sugar with a mixer on medium speed until combined. With machine running, add eggs, 1 at a time. Reduce speed to low, and beat in flour mixture in 3 additions, alternating with 1/2 cup cider and the brandy (if not using brandy, use an additional 1/4 cup cider), beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla, and fold in apples. Pour mixture into pan, and top with oatmeal-walnut crumble.
  • Place pan on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake until a tester inserted into center comes out clean, 45 to 55 minutes. Transfer pan to a wire rack, and let cool for 15 minutes. Invert pan to remove bread. Let cool completely on a wire rack, crumble side up. Drizzle with caramel sauce just before serving.

Yield Makes about 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed dark-brown sugar
1 1/2 ounces walnuts, broken into pieces (1/2 cup)
1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 ounces (5 tablespoons) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Steps:

  • Combine flour, sugar, walnuts, oats, and salt in the bowl of a mixer. Add butter, and beat on medium speed until mixture forms small clumps.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of oats. This will give your oatmeal a more complex flavor and texture. You can use rolled oats, steel-cut oats, or a combination of both.
  • Don't overcook the oats. Oatmeal should be cooked until it is tender but still has a little bit of a bite to it. If you overcook the oats, they will become mushy.
  • Add your favorite toppings. Oatmeal is a blank canvas that can be topped with anything you like. Some popular toppings include berries, nuts, seeds, and spices.
  • Make a batch of oatmeal ahead of time. Oatmeal can be made ahead of time and reheated in the morning. This is a great way to save time on busy mornings.
  • Experiment with different recipes. There are many different ways to make oatmeal. Experiment with different recipes until you find one that you love.

Conclusion:

Oatmeal is a healthy, delicious, and versatile breakfast food. It is a great way to start your day and can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you like it plain or topped with your favorite ingredients, oatmeal is a great choice for a nutritious and satisfying breakfast.
