Tips:

  • To make sure your strata is cooked evenly, use a sharp knife to score the top of the bread before baking. This will help the custard mixture to penetrate the bread and create a more evenly cooked dish.
  • If you don't have a loaf of sourdough bread, you can use another type of bread, such as French bread or Italian bread. Just make sure that the bread is sturdy enough to hold up to the custard mixture.
  • You can also use different types of cheese in this recipe. A sharp cheddar cheese or a Gruyère cheese would be a good choice.
  • If you don't have fresh tomatoes, you can use canned diced tomatoes or tomato sauce. Just make sure to drain the tomatoes before using them.
  • This recipe can be made ahead of time. Simply prepare the strata according to the instructions and then cover it and refrigerate it overnight. In the morning, bring it to room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.

Conclusion:

This Onion and Bell Pepper Strata with Fresh Tomato Salsa is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast or brunch dish. It's perfect for a lazy weekend morning or for a special occasion. The strata is packed with flavor from the onions, bell peppers, cheese, and salsa. The bread soaks up the custard mixture and becomes soft and fluffy.
