Tips:

  • To achieve crispy and flavorful fried chicken without deep-frying, use a wire rack placed over a baking sheet to allow air to circulate around the chicken pieces.
  • Marinate the chicken in a mixture of buttermilk, spices, and herbs for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight to enhance its flavor and tenderness.
  • Use a combination of all-purpose flour and cornstarch as the coating for the chicken. The cornstarch helps create a crispy crust.
  • Make sure the chicken is evenly coated with the seasoned flour mixture before baking.
  • Preheat the oven to the highest temperature possible (usually 450°F or 230°C) to create an initial sear and help crisp up the chicken skin.
  • Bake the chicken for about 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) as measured with a meat thermometer.
  • Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute, resulting in more tender and flavorful meat.

Conclusion:

Oven-baked fried chicken is a healthier and more convenient alternative to traditional deep-fried chicken. By following the tips mentioned above, you can create crispy, flavorful, and juicy oven-baked fried chicken that is perfect for a variety of occasions. Serve it with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or roasted vegetables, for a complete and satisfying meal.
