Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for oven-baked frites because they are starchy and have a low moisture content. This will help them to crisp up nicely in the oven.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized strips: This will help them to cook evenly. If the strips are too thick, they will not cook through properly. If they are too thin, they will burn.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes: This will help to remove excess starch from the potatoes, which will make them crispier. Be sure to rinse the potatoes well before drying them.
  • Toss the potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper: This will help them to brown and flavor nicely in the oven.
  • Spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet: This will help them to cook evenly. If the potatoes are crowded on the baking sheet, they will not cook properly.
  • Bake the potatoes at a high temperature: This will help them to crisp up quickly. The best temperature for oven-baked frites is 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Flip the potatoes halfway through cooking: This will help them to brown evenly.
  • Serve the potatoes immediately: Oven-baked frites are best served hot and crispy. They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or ranch dressing.

Conclusion:

Oven-baked frites are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish. They are perfect for any occasion, from a casual weeknight dinner to a special holiday meal. With a few simple tips, you can make oven-baked frites that are crispy, flavorful, and sure to please everyone at your table.
