GRANDAD'S PANCAKES

Grandad's Pancakes image

This secret family pancake recipe was passed down from my grandfather. He fed a family of 7 (including 4 growing boys!) on these pancakes, and refused to give anyone the recipe until he finally relinquished it to my mother (his daughter-in-law) before he passed away. It is a long-standing family favorite!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will result in the best-tasting pancakes. Use all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, eggs, milk, and butter. You can also add vanilla extract or other flavorings.
  • Let the batter rest: Letting the batter rest for 5-10 minutes before cooking will allow the gluten in the flour to relax, which will result in lighter, fluffier pancakes.
  • Use a well-seasoned griddle or frying pan: A well-seasoned griddle or frying pan will help to prevent the pancakes from sticking. If you don't have a well-seasoned pan, you can grease it with cooking spray or butter.
  • Cook the pancakes over medium heat: Cooking the pancakes over medium heat will help to ensure that they cook evenly throughout without burning.
  • Flip the pancakes only once: Flipping the pancakes too often will make them tough. Flip them only once, when the edges are dry and bubbles are forming on the surface.
  • Serve the pancakes immediately: Pancakes are best served immediately after they are cooked. You can top them with butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Making pancakes from scratch is a fun and rewarding experience. With a few simple tips, you can make delicious pancakes that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a special breakfast or brunch dish, give these pancakes a try.
