TIPS

  • For a more traditional Ashkenazic kugel, use a combination of peaches and apricots. This will give the kugel a more complex, well-rounded, and delightful taste.
  • To make a gluten-free kugel, use gluten-free matzo meal or crushed gluten-free pretzels instead of bread crumbs.
  • If you don't have any butter on hand, you can use the same amount of coconut oil or mashed avocado.
  • Feel free to add some raisins, cranberries, or walnuts to the kugel batter for extra texture and additional flavors.
  • To make the kugel ahead of time, prepare it according to the recipe, but do not bake it. Place the prepared kugel in a freezer-proof container and freeze for up to 24 hours. When you're ready to bake, thaw the kugel in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, then bake it according to the recipe. If you prefer to serve it cold, you don’t have to heat it up.
