PAULA DEEN'S BROCCOLI COLESLAW

Paula Deen's Broccoli Coleslaw image

I make a similar salad using bok choy or napa cabbage. I haven't tried this recipe yet but I already know it will be delicious!

Provided by Ethans Mom

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 (3 ounce) bags oriental-flavor instant ramen noodles, reserve seasoning packet for dressing (other flavors will work, too)
3/8 cup butter
1/4 cup slivered almonds
2 (12 ounce) bags bags broccoli coleslaw mix (in the bagged salad section of the grocery store)
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
chopped green onion, for garnish
3/4 cup canola oil
1/4 cup brown sugar or 1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Put the ramen noodles in a bag and crush them with a rolling pin while melting butter in a large skillet over low/medium heat.
  • Add the crushed noodles and slivered almonds to the skillet and sauté, stirring occasionally (keep temperature at low/medium heat).
  • Meanwhile, whisk together all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Place the shredded broccoli into bowl and toss with the noodles, almonds, and sunflower seeds.
  • Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat. Garnish with chopped green onions.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cabbage: Green cabbage is the most commonly used cabbage for coleslaw, but you can also use red cabbage or a combination of both. If you want a sweeter coleslaw, use green cabbage. If you want a more tart coleslaw, use red cabbage.
  • Shred the cabbage thinly: This will help the coleslaw absorb the dressing better.
  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to shred the cabbage: This will give you clean, even shreds.
  • Add other vegetables to your coleslaw: Shredded carrots, celery, and onion are all popular additions to coleslaw. You can also add things like broccoli, cauliflower, and bell peppers.
  • Make the dressing ahead of time: This will give the flavors time to meld together.
  • Chill the coleslaw before serving: This will help the flavors to develop and will make the coleslaw more refreshing.

Conclusion:

Paula Deen's hot bacon coleslaw is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover bacon and cabbage, and it is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy side dish, give Paula Deen's hot bacon coleslaw a try. You won't be disappointed!
