PENUCHE CAKE BARS

Penuche Cake Bars image

For those who love rich, butterscotch, caramel, and brown sugar flavored candies, it is likely an all-time favorite. The nuts used are generally pecans, but walnuts and other nutmeats can also be used as desired. Pecans lend a sweet, full flavor and walnuts give the candy almost bittersweet undertones.

I have made these Butter Pecan Cookie Bars for many, many years. They are rich, chewy, nutty and buttery-all the good stuff. They freeze well, that is, if they last long enough. A little drizzle of old-fashioned penuche icing takes them over the top. -Kallee Krong-McCreery, Escondido, California

PUMPKIN PIE BARS RECIPE BY TASTY

Pumpkin Pie Bars Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: premade pie crust, Kroger 100% Pure Pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, kosher salt, pecan

Provided by Kroger

Categories     Desserts

Yield 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 premade pie crust
1 can Kroger 100% Pure Pumpkin
1 can evaporated milk
2 eggs
¾ cup sugar
1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ cup pecan, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  • Prepare an 9x9-inch square baking pan. Spray with cooking spray and then line with parchment, so the excess parchment hangs over the two sides.
  • Press the crust down into the bottom of the pan evenly.
  • Bake crust for 8 minutes, until edges begin to turn golden brown. Remove from oven and set aside.
  • Filling: Whisk together all ingredients until smooth. Pour onto crust. Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the pan from the oven, evenly sprinkle on the chopped pecans, and return the pan to the oven. Bake for another 10-15 minutes or until filling is set.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool completely. Refrigerate for 2 hours. Slice and serve!

Tips:

  • Use fresh pumpkin puree for the best flavor. Canned pumpkin puree can be used, but it will not have as rich a flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake the bars until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the bars cool completely before frosting. This will help the frosting set properly.
  • If you don't have brown sugar, you can make your own by combining 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon of molasses.
  • The bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Conclusion:

Penuche pumpkin bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for fall. They are moist and flavorful, with a sweet and creamy penuche frosting. These bars are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them!
