Moist and Moreish, it has a wonderful crunchy sugarplum topping. Originally from a Good Food Magazine. I have also substituted the plums for Rhubarb, Nectarines and apples, I'm sure any fruit will work well.

When a neighbor gave me a bunch of plums, and the only thing I could think of was jam, a 2nd neighbor gave me this recipe! It is so tasty and simple to make. I pretty much have to double it now, as everyone loves it. By the way, after I made this, we planted our own prune plum trees!

Number Of Ingredients 8

24 plums, pitted and quartered
¼ cup brown sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1 cup + 3 tbsp flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1/2 cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Place plums in a shallow, 2 qt, ungreased baking dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and 3 tbsp flour. Mix together sugar, 1 cup flour, baking powder, and egg. (This will be lumpy.) Pour over plums. Pour ½ cup melted butter over this. Bake at 375º for 45 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe and sweet plums: Using ripe and sweet plums will ensure that your crunch is flavorful and delicious. If the plums are too tart, you may need to add more sugar to the recipe.
  • Use a variety of plums: Using a variety of plums, such as red, black, and yellow, will give your crunch a more complex flavor and color.
  • Don't overcook the plums: Overcooking the plums will make them mushy and lose their flavor. Cook them just until they are softened and starting to release their juices.
  • Use a combination of oats and flour: Using a combination of oats and flour will give your crunch a crispy and crumbly texture. You can also use all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour, but the oats will add a nice nutty flavor and texture.
  • Add your favorite spices: You can add your favorite spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, to the crunch for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm or cold: Plum crunch can be served warm or cold. If you serve it warm, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. If you serve it cold, it can be a refreshing summer dessert.

Conclusion:

With its sweet and tart flavor, crispy topping, and creamy filling, plum crunch is sure to be a hit. So next time you have a craving for a sweet treat, give plum crunch a try.
