Tips:

  • To ensure the calzone is cooked evenly, preheat the oven to a high temperature and bake for a shorter amount of time, rather than a lower temperature for a longer time.
  • For a golden brown crust, brush the calzone with melted butter or olive oil before baking.
  • To prevent the calzone from becoming soggy, make sure the filling is not too wet. If it is, drain any excess liquid before assembling the calzone.
  • To make sure the calzone is cooked through, use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • For a more flavorful calzone, use a variety of cheeses, such as mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan.
  • To add a touch of sweetness to the calzone, include some sliced apples or pears.
  • For a vegetarian calzone, omit the prosciutto and add roasted vegetables, such as zucchini, eggplant, and bell peppers.
