Skinny Cheeseburger Pie Recipe - (3.8/5) image

Provided by SkinnyMom

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb lean ground turkey
1 small onion, diced
1 Tbsp minced garlic
2 tsp McCormick® Grill Mates® Hamburger Grilling Blend Seasoning
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp Heinz® Low Sugar Tomato Ketchup
1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
1/4 tsp black pepper
8-oz can Pillsbury® Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls
1 cup Sargento® Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese
4 tomato slices

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Spray a 9-inch round baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. 2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey, onion, garlic and hamburger seasoning. Cook about 7 to 8 minutes until the ground turkey is browned. Use a wooden spoon to break the turkey up as it cooks. Remove from heat. 3. Add the Worcestershire sauce and ketchup to the turkey mixture and stir to combine. 4. Stir in the cottage cheese, to the turkey mixture and combine. Season with the black pepper. 5. Next, line the baking dish with the reduced fat crescent rolls. To do this, start by separating each individual triangle. Then align the long side of the triangles around the edge of baking dish. Slightly overlap the triangles as you make your way around them and fill in the bottom of the dish using remaining triangles. Pinch the seams together. Gently poke a few holes in the crescent triangles with a fork. 6. Prebake the pie crust for 6 to 7 minutes in the oven. 7. Remove the pie crust from oven and add the ground turkey mixture. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over pie. Place the tomato slices on top of the cheddar cheese. Cover just the crust with a thin strip of aluminum foil to avoid charring the edges. 8. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted. To serve, cut into six slices.

My mom always made the best cheeseburger pie, and when I stopped eating red meat I always craved this recipe. Finally, I got adventurous and created my own Vegetarian Cheeseburger Pie! I use Boca Meatless Ground Burger, but I'm sure any soy artificial hamburger would work. Quick and easy! The ingredients listed also make the pie reduced fat.

REDUCED-FAT IMPOSSIBLY EASY VEGETABLE PIE

Reduced-Fat Impossibly Easy Vegetable Pie image

I took Bisquick's Impossibly Easy Vegetable Pie and bulked it up with extra veggies and lowered the fat by substituting fat-free milk and cheese and self-rising flour for the Bisquick. It is a completely delicious and low-cal vegetarian dish that would work for a savory breakfast, a brunch, lunch and I've even served it for dinner. You can substitute cauliflower for the broccoli or try half of each. I just love the broccoli too much to try anything else!

Tips:

  • Use lean ground beef: To reduce the fat content in the cheeseburger pie, use lean ground beef. Ground sirloin or ground turkey are both good options.
  • Skip the cheese sauce: The cheese sauce in the traditional cheeseburger pie is a major source of fat and calories. Instead, use shredded cheese or a low-fat cheese sauce.
  • Use whole-wheat flour: Whole-wheat flour is a good source of fiber and nutrients. It will also help to keep the pie crust from becoming too soggy.
  • Add vegetables: Vegetables are a great way to add flavor and nutrients to the cheeseburger pie. Try adding diced onions, peppers, or mushrooms to the ground beef mixture.
  • Don't overcook the pie: Overcooked pie crust is tough and chewy. Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is cooked through.

Conclusion:

The vegetarian cheeseburger pie is a delicious and hearty meal that's perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple swaps, you can make this pie healthier without sacrificing any flavor.
