Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (8 pound) bone-in shank ham
4 cups water, or as needed
½ cup honey
½ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch ground cloves

Categories     main-dish

Time 3h10m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

One 7 to 8-pound smoked fresh ham
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup apple jelly
1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger
2 teaspoons minced garlic

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Place the ham in a roasting pan fat-side up. Score the fat with a crisscross pattern. Cook the ham for about 1 hour to allow the scored fat to open up.
  • In the meantime, in a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together the brown sugar, apple jelly, mustard, vinegar, ginger and garlic along with 2 tablespoons water. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 2 minutes until it has a smooth syrupy consistency.
  • Remove the ham from the oven. Generously brush the ham with half of the glaze. Place back in the oven and bake an additional 1 hour and 30 minutes, basting with the remaining glaze every 20 minutes. If the ham starts to get too brown, cover with foil. Remove from the oven, cover and allow the ham to rest for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

JAMON CON SANGRIA (SANGRIA HAM)

Jamon Con Sangria (Sangria Ham) image

At four hours and twenty minutes, and the constant basting near the end, this ham recipe is rather labor-intensive; but totally worth it. I've only eaten it twice, but it was memorable each time. Use your own sangria or store-bought - it doesn't matter. The sweetness of the sangria, coupled with the acidity of the pineapple makes a great marriage of flavors.

Time 4h30m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 -10 lbs bone-in ham
1/4 cup whole cloves
1 lb brown sugar
1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
2 cups sangria (red)

Steps:

  • Remove rind from ham.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Use a sharp knife to score the ham a quarter inch deep in a diamond pattern.
  • Place in large roasting pan fat side up, and stud the whole cloves in the center of each "diamond".
  • Pack the top of the ham with the whole pound of brown sugar to coat the surface as thickly as possible.
  • Roast uncovered for 20 minutes so sugar begins to melt.
  • Mix pineapple juice and sangria. When the sugar has begun to melt, pour 1 cup of the sangria/juice mixture over ham, and return the ham to the oven for 30-40 minutes.
  • After one hour in the oven, baste ham with remaining mixture, stirring into the drippings. Return the ham to the oven for 2 more hours, basting after the first hour with the remaining wine mixture.
  • Lower oven temperature to 325 degrees; baste ham every 20 minutes with pan drippings for final hour of cooking. A meat thermometer should read 160 degrees before serving.

2 tablespoons orange juice
Ceylon cloves, for garnish
1 (9-pound) fully cooked bone-in ham (shank or butt end)

TANGY GLAZED HAM

Tangy Glazed Ham image

After unsuccessfully looking for a satisfying glaze recipe in a number of cookbooks, my daughter and I came up with this version. It's a simple way to dress up any ham you prepare.

Provided by Taste of Home

Categories     Dinner

Time 1h20m

Yield 12 servings.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 boneless fully cooked ham (3 pounds)
1/2 cup sweet-and-sour sauce
1/4 cup light corn syrup
3 tablespoons zesty Italian salad dressing

Steps:

  • Place ham in an ungreased 11x7-in. baking pan. Pour remaining ingredients over ham in the order listed., Bake, uncovered, at 325°, basting occasionally, for 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours or until a thermometer reads 140°.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham. A bone-in ham will be more flavorful than a boneless ham. And a ham that is at least 10 pounds will be large enough to feed a crowd.
  • Score the ham. This will help the glaze penetrate the meat and create a crispy crust.
  • Make the glaze ahead of time. This will give the flavors time to meld together.
  • Baste the ham frequently. This will help keep the ham moist and prevent it from drying out.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the ham is cooked to the correct temperature. The internal temperature of the ham should reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the ham rest before slicing it. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

This sangria-glazed ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a special occasion. The sweet and tangy glaze pairs perfectly with the smoky flavor of the ham. And the ham is so moist and tender that it will melt in your mouth. So next time you're looking for a special dish to serve, give this sangria-glazed ham a try. You won't be disappointed.
