Tips:
- Use fresh seafood. The fresher the seafood, the better your hush puppies will taste.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the hush puppies tough.
- Let the batter rest for at least 15 minutes before frying. This will help the flour to absorb the liquid and make the hush puppies lighter and fluffier.
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven for frying. This will help to prevent the hush puppies from sticking to the bottom of the pot and burning.
- Fry the hush puppies in hot oil. The oil should be at least 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Don't overcrowd the pot. Fry the hush puppies in batches so that they have room to cook evenly.
- Drain the hush puppies on paper towels before serving. This will help to remove any excess oil.
