Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream image

A friend gave this recipe to me a few years back, and my family can't seem to get enough of it. It sounds strange with cream in it, but that just enhances the flavor and texture. This is a very easy recipe.

BOW TIES WITH SAUSAGE, TOMATO, AND CREAM

Bow Ties With Sausage, Tomato, and Cream image

A very easy pasta dish for busy evenings. I like it served with crusty bread (to dip in the sauce) and a tossed salad. I have even doubled the recipe and served it to guest on a casual evening.

SAUSAGE AND BOW TIES

Sausage and Bow Ties image

This is a good pasta recipe that can be whipped up quickly on those busy nights when the kids have activities. When I have more time, I use fresh chopped tomatoes. The sausage is easier to slice if you stick it in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes to firm it up a bit. Cook time includes pasta cooking time.

Time 30m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb bow tie pasta
1 1/2 lbs sweet Italian sausage, cut into 1/2-inch slices
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes or 2 cups chopped plum tomatoes
1 tablespoon oregano
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Cook bowtie pasta according to package directions; drain- do NOT rinse.
  • Meanwhile, in a large skillet over med-high heat, brown sausage; drain if necessary.
  • Turn heat down to medium. Add oil, garlic, onion, green pepper, tomatoes and oregano to skillet with sausage and sautee and stir for about 5 minutes. Stir in cooked hot pasta and toss around to coat and heat through.
  • Sprinkle with shredded cheese and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sausage: This recipe works best with a mild or medium Italian sausage. You can also use a spicy sausage if you like, but be sure to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes you add to the sauce accordingly.
  • Cook the sausage thoroughly: Sausage should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. To check, insert a meat thermometer into the center of the sausage. If it's not cooked through, continue cooking until it reaches the desired temperature.
  • Don't crowd the pan: When cooking the sausage, be sure to give it enough space in the pan so that it can brown evenly. If you crowd the pan, the sausage will steam instead of brown.
  • Use a good quality pasta: The type of pasta you use will make a big difference in the final dish. Choose a pasta that is made with high-quality ingredients and that has a good texture.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: Al dente means "to the tooth" in Italian. It refers to the texture of pasta that is cooked through but still has a slight bite to it. To achieve al dente pasta, cook it for 1-2 minutes less than the package directions.
  • Make sure the sauce is flavorful: The sauce is the key to this dish. Be sure to use a sauce that is flavorful and that complements the sausage and pasta. You can use a store-bought sauce or make your own.
  • Serve with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese: Parmesan cheese adds a delicious finishing touch to this dish. Sprinkle it on top of the pasta before serving.

Conclusion:

Sausage and bow ties is a quick and easy meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover sausage. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give sausage and bow ties a try!
