Time 20m

Yield 18 figs, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

19 fresh ripe small figs, about 1 . 25 lbs
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
1/4 cup natural almonds, toasted and chopped

Steps:

  • Mash the ripest fig on a plate with the honey, using a fork; set aside.
  • Trim stems from remaining figs with a sharp knife, then cut a deep "X" in the top of each, making sure not to cut all the way through to the bottom. Gently spread each fig apart with your fingertips to make "petals."
  • Combine ricotta cheese and almonds in a small bowl. Press mashed fig mixture through a sieve into a cup with the back of a spoon.
  • To serve, spoon ricotta mixture into figs. Arrange on a platter and drizzle with fig honey.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe figs: Look for figs that are plump and have a slight give when pressed. Avoid figs that are too soft or have blemishes.
  • Prepare the figs: Cut off the stem end of the figs and make a small slit in the side. If the figs are large, you can cut them in half.
  • Stuff the figs: You can use a variety of fillings for stuffed figs, such as goat cheese, feta cheese, prosciutto, walnuts, almonds, honey, or jam. Get creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Bake or grill the figs: You can bake stuffed figs in the oven or grill them. If you are baking them, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are grilling them, preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Serve the figs: Stuffed figs can be served as an appetizer, main course, or dessert. They can also be used as a side dish.

Conclusion:

Stuffed figs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. They are a great way to use up fresh figs, and they can be made with a variety of fillings to suit your taste. Whether you are looking for a simple appetizer or a more elaborate main course, stuffed figs are sure to please.
