SESAME SEED / NUT MILK

Sesame Seed / Nut Milk image

I needed an alternate calcium source for my daughter and found that one cup of natural sesame seed milk has a lot of calcium in it, depending on the seed you use it can be as much as 3+ times the amount found in milk. For more information on sesame seeds go to www.vegparadise.com/highestperch41.html using the Google search engine. For those that like a sweeter milk, add 1 Tablespoon honey or 2-3 dates and 1/4 teaspoon salt optional. Myself I prefer the natural taste of plain sesame seed milk. If you want to make a nut milk, follow the same process with your desired nut. Add your sweetener and salt just before blending.

Time 3m

Yield 2 cups, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/4 cup sesame seeds
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped gingerroot (very fresh)
1 1/2 cups milk
2 teaspoons honey or 2 teaspoons maple syrup

Steps:

  • Blend all ingredients on high-speed until you have a smoothie.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality sesame seeds: The quality of your sesame seeds will directly impact the flavor of your sesame milk. Look for organic, hulled sesame seeds for the best results.
  • Soak your sesame seeds: Soaking your sesame seeds overnight or for at least 4 hours will help to soften them and make them easier to blend. This will also help to release their nutrients and improve the flavor of your sesame milk.
  • Use a high-powered blender: A high-powered blender is essential for making creamy, smooth sesame milk. If you don't have a high-powered blender, you can use a regular blender, but you may need to blend the sesame seeds for longer.
  • Strain your sesame milk: Straining your sesame milk will help to remove any grit or sediment. You can use a fine-mesh strainer or a cheesecloth-lined colander.
  • Sweeten your sesame milk to taste: Sesame milk can be enjoyed plain, or you can sweeten it to taste with honey, maple syrup, or another natural sweetener.

Conclusion:

Sesame milk is a delicious, nutritious, and versatile plant-based milk that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a good source of calcium, protein, and other essential nutrients. Sesame milk is also a good source of antioxidants, which can help to protect your cells from damage. With its creamy texture and nutty flavor, sesame milk is a great addition to smoothies, shakes, and other beverages. It can also be used in baking and cooking. So next time you're looking for a healthy and delicious plant-based milk, give sesame milk a try.
