Steps:
- 1. For the Pie: Mix all dry ingredients. Melt butter in a 10 inch skillet. Add dry mixture and mix lightly. Combine egg yolks with milk, add to mixture, stirring constantly. Cook slowly until really thick. Remove from heat, add vanilla, blend well and pour into baked pie shell and let cool.
- 2. For the meringue: Let 5 egg whites come to room temperature. Add a pinch of salt, a pinch of cream of tartar and 1/4 tsp. of vinegar. Beat until stiff and add 10 tablespoons of sugar until well blended. Pile on top of pie unevenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
Tips:
- Use a high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. A semisweet or bittersweet chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 60% is ideal.
- Make sure the butter and chocolate are completely melted before adding the other ingredients. This will help to create a smooth and creamy filling.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the pie tough.
- Bake the pie until the center is just set. The pie will continue to cook as it cools.
- Let the pie cool completely before serving. This will help the filling to firm up.
Conclusion:
Skillet chocolate pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its rich chocolate flavor and creamy filling, this pie is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
