SLOPPY JOES

Sloppy Joes image

This is my adaptation of my mom's yummy sloppy joe recipe. I like to toast the buns, as they hold together a little better when they are toasty. I usually make a double batch, which gives us enough for dinner with leftovers for lunch. Times are estimated. Tip: my DH loves to add a slice of cheddar cheese before placing the bun top on. They are pretty tasty that way!

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ground beef, chopped onions, and bell peppers will give your sloppy joes the best flavor. Avoid using pre-packaged or frozen ingredients whenever possible.
  • Cook the beef thoroughly: Brown the beef in a large skillet over medium heat until it is no longer pink. This will help to ensure that your sloppy joes are safe to eat.
  • Drain the excess fat: After browning the beef, drain off any excess fat before adding the other ingredients. This will help to keep your sloppy joes from being too greasy.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Sloppy joes are a great way to use up leftover spices and seasonings. Add your favorite herbs and spices to the sauce, such as chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, or paprika.
  • Simmer the sauce: Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time. This will help to develop the flavors and make the sauce more delicious.
  • Serve on toasted buns: Toasted buns will help to soak up the sauce and prevent it from making your hands messy. You can also serve sloppy joes on slider buns or rolls.

Conclusion:

Sloppy joes are a classic American comfort food that is perfect for a quick and easy meal. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make delicious sloppy joes that your whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a weeknight dinner idea, give sloppy joes a try. You won't be disappointed!
