Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples that will hold their shape when cooked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn apples.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Use fresh or frozen pumpkin puree: If using fresh pumpkin, be sure to roast and puree it before using.
  • Add spices to taste: Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves are classic pumpkin pie spices, but you can also add allspice, ginger, or cardamom for a different flavor profile.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing will make the cobbler tough. Just mix until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cobbler until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Serve the cobbler warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream: This is the perfect way to enjoy this classic fall dessert.
