Spray a 4-quart or 5-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Spread batter into the bottom of the slow cooker; sprinkle chopped apples evenly over batter. PUDDING MIXTURE: In a small bowl, combine apple cider, honey, melted butter, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour over apples and cake batter. Do not stir. Tips:

  • Use a slow cooker that is at least 5 quarts in capacity to ensure that the cake cooks evenly.
  • Be sure to grease the slow cooker insert with butter or cooking spray to prevent the cake from sticking.
  • Do not overmix the batter, as this can result in a tough cake.
  • If you are using fresh apples, be sure to peel and core them before slicing them.
  • You can use any type of apple you like in this recipe, but Granny Smith apples are a good choice because they hold their shape well when cooked.
  • Be careful not to overcook the cake, as this can dry it out. Check the cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Serve the cake warm with whipped cream, ice cream, or your favorite topping.
