Tips for Making the Best Slow Cooker BBQ Ham Sandwiches:

  • Trim any excess fat from the ham steak, but leave a little bit on so that the meat doesn't dry out.
  • Score the ham steak in a diamond pattern. This will help the barbecue sauce penetrate the meat and give it more flavor.
  • Use a good quality barbecue sauce. Look for one that is thick and flavorful, with a good balance of sweet and tangy.
  • Cook the ham steak in the slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours, or until it is fall-apart tender.
