SOUTHERN "SALSA"

Southern

Provided by Trisha Yearwood

Categories     appetizer

Time 10m

Yield 8 to 10 servings (3 cups dip)

Number Of Ingredients 9

One 12-ounce jar whole fancy pimientos, drained and deseeded
One 15-ounce can white hominy, drained
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon Louisiana hot sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
Kosher salt
Zest of 1 lime
Tortilla chips, for dipping
Crudite, for dipping

Steps:

  • Add the pimientos, white hominy and cream cheese to a food processor. Pulse until a smooth paste is formed, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle in the hot sauce and Cajun seasoning and pulse to combine. Season with kosher salt if desired (some Cajun seasoning blends already contain salt).
  • Pour into a serving bowl and garnish with the lime zest. Serve alongside tortilla chips and crudite for dipping or store in an airtight container, refrigerated, for up to 2 weeks.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe and flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your salsa will depend on the quality of your tomatoes. Look for tomatoes that are ripe, red, and juicy.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients will give your salsa the best flavor. If possible, use fresh herbs, onions, and peppers.
  • Don't over-process your salsa: A good salsa should have a chunky texture. Don't over-process your salsa in the food processor or blender, or it will become too smooth.
  • Adjust the heat level to your taste: If you like your salsa spicy, add more chili peppers. If you prefer a milder salsa, remove the seeds from the chili peppers before adding them to the salsa.
  • Chill your salsa before serving: Chilled salsa is more refreshing and flavorful. Chill your salsa for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Conclusion:

Southern salsa is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used to add flavor to a variety of dishes. With its unique blend of spices and ingredients, southern salsa is sure to please everyone at your next party or gathering. So next time you're looking for a way to add some spice to your life, give southern salsa a try!
