1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb bulk italian sausage (i used jimmy deans regular)
SAUCE
1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
1/2 c finely chopped onion
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp dried oregano, crushed
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper

Steps:

Place on a cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes. Drain well.
  • 2. meanwhile in a 4-5 quart slow cooker combine crushed tomatoes, 1/2 cup onion, the vinegar, 2 cloves garlic, oregano and crushed red pepper. Mix. Add baked meatballs to mixture and mix gently. Cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours or on high heat for 2 to 3 hours. Skim fat from sauce before serving

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling.
  • Use Fresh, High-Quality Ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your meatballs will taste. Look for fresh, organic produce and high-quality ground beef.
  • Season Generously: Don't be afraid to season your meatballs well. Italian meatballs should be packed with flavor. Use a combination of garlic, onion, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Don't Overwork the Meat: When mixing the meatball mixture, be careful not to overwork it. Overworking the meat will make the meatballs tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Let the Meatballs Rest: After forming the meatballs, let them rest for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will help the meatballs hold their shape and cook evenly.
  • Cook the Meatballs Thoroughly: Make sure the meatballs are cooked all the way through before serving. The internal temperature of the meatballs should reach 165°F (74°C).

These spicy Italian meatballs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or even in a sandwich. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Let these tips help you create delicious, flavorful meatballs. Experiment with different spices and ingredients to find your perfect combination. Buon Appetito!
