2 baking apples, cut into 1/2-inch slices, or more to taste
½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 1/2 lb butternut squash, peeled, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 5 cups)
2 to 3 large Granny Smith apples, cored, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (4 cups)
1/4 cup real maple or maple-flavored syrup
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted*

1/2 cup apple cider or water
2 small apples, peeled, cubed
2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 tsp nutmeg or chinese 5 spice

  • Butter a 2 to 2 1/2 quart baking dish.. Heat oven to 350.. Peel, see, and cut squash into small slices. Core the apples, peel (if desired) and cut into thin slices. Toss squash and apples together. Transfer to the prepared baking dish. Combine brown sugar, flour, salt, and spices; cut in butter with fork or pastry cutter until crumbly.
