STEAMED CAULIFLOWER IN THE BUFF

Steamed Cauliflower in the Buff image

This "in the buff" recipe won't compete with seasoning of other items on your menu.

Provided by My Food Coach

Categories     Cauliflower

Time 6m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 head cauliflower
1 1/4 cups water

Steps:

  • Fill 2 quart pot (medium size) with water, so it is just below metal steamer basket.
  • Bring water to boil.
  • Cut cauliflower into florets and place into steamer basket.
  • Cover with lid and steam for 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Drain water and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right cauliflower: Look for a head of cauliflower that is compact and heavy for its size. The florets should be tightly packed and have a creamy white color. Avoid heads of cauliflower that have any brown or yellow spots, as this indicates that the cauliflower is past its prime.
  • Prepare the cauliflower properly: Cut the cauliflower into florets and rinse them thoroughly under cold water. Drain the florets well before steaming them.
  • Use a steamer basket: A steamer basket is the best way to steam cauliflower because it allows the steam to circulate evenly around the florets. If you don't have a steamer basket, you can use a colander placed over a pot of boiling water.
  • Steam the cauliflower until tender: The cauliflower is done steaming when it is tender enough to be pierced with a fork. This usually takes about 10-12 minutes.
  • Season the cauliflower: Once the cauliflower is cooked, season it with your favorite seasonings. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, and lemon juice.

Conclusion:

Steamed cauliflower is a delicious and healthy side dish that can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a larger meal. It is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and it is also low in calories and carbohydrates. If you are looking for a healthy and easy way to cook cauliflower, steaming is the perfect method.
