Tips:

  • Choose the right onions: Yellow onions are the most common type of onion used for caramelizing, but you can also use white or red onions. Sweet onions, such as Vidalia or Walla Walla, will caramelize more quickly and have a milder flavor.
  • Slice the onions thinly: This will help them caramelize evenly and quickly.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot or skillet: This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the onions from burning.
  • Cook the onions over low heat: This will allow them to caramelize slowly and develop a deep flavor.
  • Stir the onions frequently: This will help to prevent them from sticking to the pot or skillet and burning.
  • Don't add salt to the onions until they are almost fully caramelized: Salt can draw out the moisture from the onions and prevent them from caramelizing properly.
  • Use cider vinegar to deglaze the pot or skillet: This will help to loosen any browned bits and add a bit of acidity to the onions.
  • Top your hot dogs with your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings include ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, and cheese.

Conclusion:

Sticky cider onion hot dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make summer meal. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that is sure to please everyone at your next cookout. So fire up the grill and give this recipe a try!
