This is such a EASY dessert to make. It is fun for children to help with too. I usually make it with my daughter when she wants to help make something in the kitchen. She can do everything herself, except the oven part.

My sister discovered this cake at a church potluck and asked the lady who made it for the recipe. Since then, it has been a favorite in our family and it is so super easy as well as tasty!

Time 1h9m

Yield 1 cake, 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, undrained
1 (20 ounce) can wilderness cherry pie filling
1 (18 1/4 ounce) box white cake mix
1 cup margarine, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Spray a 9x13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Dump the crushed pineapple (juice and all) into bottom of pan; make sure it is evenly spread on bottom.
  • Dump the cherry pie filling on top of the pineapple; make sure it is evenly spread on top.
  • Dump the dry cake mix over the top, spreading evenly across the top.
  • Melt the margarine in microwave (or stove top if you prefer).
  • Using a large serving spoon, evenly put melted margarine over top of dry cake mix, making sure it goes clear to the edge and the dry cake mix is covered. (You may not have to use all of the margarine. I just melt that much so that I will have extra in case I have trouble spreading it).
  • Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Check it often toward the end of cooking because it should only be golden brown and it is easy to get it too brown.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh cherries when they are in season. If using frozen cherries, thaw them before using.
  • If you don't have cherry pie filling, you can make your own by combining 3 cups of fresh cherries, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened.
  • You can use any type of cake mix for this recipe, but a white or yellow cake mix will give you the best results.
  • If you want a more decadent cake, you can add a layer of whipped cream or ice cream before serving.
  • This cake is also delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Conclusion:

Cherry dump cake is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its simple ingredients and delicious flavor, it's perfect for any occasion. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dessert, give cherry dump cake a try!
