This is always a winner in our house. The gravy is not a really thick gravy, but the taste more than makes up for it. Serve over biscuits or toast.

SUPER EASY SAUSAGE GRAVY

Super Easy Sausage Gravy image

I found this recipe in an old Quick Cooking Magazine, and it is the only sausage gravy recipe I have used since. This recipe cooks up quickly on those mornings you just don't have time to make a big fuss over breakfast. The only thing I added was a dash of hot sauce. Thanks to D. Markel who had submitted this recipe.

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb bulk pork sausage
1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 3/4 cups milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 dash hot sauce
biscuit (optional)
fried potato (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook sausage until no longer pink. Do Not Drain.
  • Stir in butter until melted.
  • Sprinkle with flour.
  • Gradually add milk. Mix well.
  • Add salt, pepper, and hot sauce.
  • Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Serve over your favorite homemade or refrigerated biscuits.
  • I sometimes serve the sausage gravy over leftover potatoes from the previous night's dinner that I have fried up.
  • Recipe says serves 4, I find we rarely get more than 2 servings, so I often will double this.

Tips:

  • Use a large skillet to cook the sausage. This will help to prevent the sausage from sticking to the pan and will also make it easier to stir.
  • Cook the sausage over medium heat. This will help to prevent the sausage from burning.
  • Break up the sausage into small pieces as it cooks. This will help to ensure that the sausage is evenly cooked.
  • Add the flour to the skillet and stir until it is well combined with the sausage. This will help to thicken the gravy.
  • Gradually add the milk to the skillet, stirring constantly. This will help to prevent the gravy from becoming lumpy.
  • Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for 5-10 minutes, or until it has reached the desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the sausage gravy over biscuits, toast, or potatoes.

Conclusion:

Sausage gravy is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious sausage gravy that your family and friends will love.
