SUPER SIMPLE BEEF STEW

This stew is more like a really chunky vegetable soup because the broth used it tomato based. I mix the sauce and chunk up the meat and vegetables the night before and pop it all in the crock pot the next morning and put it on low before I head to work. This is for those chilly winter days when you want dinner waiting for you when you get home.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast or stew meat are both good choices for beef stew. They are relatively inexpensive and have a lot of flavor.
  • Brown the beef before stewing: Browning the beef in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat will help to develop its flavor and give the stew a richer color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The best beef stews have a variety of vegetables, such as carrots, celery, onions, and potatoes. Other vegetables that can be added include parsnips, turnips, and rutabagas.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth is an important part of beef stew, so it is important to use a flavorful one. Beef broth or stock is a good choice, but you can also use chicken broth or vegetable broth.
