COLA BEANS

Cola Beans image

This is a favorite at potlucks and barbeques! I've often wondered if I get invited for my company or my Cola Beans! I've tried several different brands of colas, but have found that Coke® works best. I like to pre-cook the bacon about half-way so it doesn't make the beans too greasy, but it's not necessary. This recipe can also be baked in a conventional oven at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour.

SODA BAKED BEANS

Soda Baked Beans image

This recipe can also be done in a crockpot, or it can be cooked in the oven! Don't use the sugar-free soda for this. The fresh garlic can be replaced with 1 teaspoon garlic powder if desired, this is best if made a day ahead to blend the flavors, refrigerate then warm over low heat on top of the stove.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of beans: For this recipe, pinto beans are recommended, but you can also use navy beans, kidney beans, or Great Northern beans.
  • Soak the beans overnight: This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more tender. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 2 minutes, then removing them from the heat, covering them, and letting them sit for an hour.
  • Use a slow cooker or Dutch oven: A slow cooker or Dutch oven is the best way to cook baked beans because it allows the beans to cook slowly and evenly. If you don't have a slow cooker or Dutch oven, you can also use a regular pot, but you will need to stir the beans more frequently to prevent them from sticking.
  • Add your own spices and flavorings: The recipe provided is a basic one, but you can add your own spices and flavorings to taste. Some popular additions include brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, and bacon.
  • Don't overcook the beans: Baked beans are best when they are cooked until they are tender but still hold their shape. Overcooked beans will be mushy and bland.

Conclusion:

Sweet cola baked beans are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are serving them at a barbecue, potluck, or family dinner, these beans are sure to be a hit. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your baked beans turn out perfectly every time.
