This recipe is my own creation. It works great with the pre-packaged taco kits. If you like the crust a little softer, add more taco sauce and bake for a few more minutes.

Time 20m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 corn crunchy taco shells
1 jar taco sauce (not salsa)
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 package taco seasoning
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2/3 cup water

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef with the onion and drain.
  • Add the taco seasoning and the water.
  • Simmer until water is cooked away.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Spray 13x9 inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Crunch taco shells into pan.
  • This will be the crust.
  • Spread beef and onion over taco shells evenly.
  • Add tomatoes evenly over beef.
  • Add about 1/2 of the jar of taco sauce.
  • Spread over tomatoes.
  • Cover with cheese.
  • Bake for approx.
  • 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Prepare Ingredients in Advance: Chop and measure all the ingredients before starting to assemble the casserole. This will save time and ensure that everything is ready when you need it.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh ingredients will give your casserole the best flavor. If possible, use fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices. You can also use frozen or canned ingredients, but fresh is always best.
  • Cook the Beef Thoroughly: Make sure that the beef is cooked thoroughly before adding it to the casserole. This will help prevent foodborne illness.
  • Don't Overcook the Casserole: The casserole should be cooked until the beef is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Overcooking can make the casserole dry and tough.
  • Let the Casserole Rest: After cooking, let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the flavors to meld and the casserole to set.
  • Serve with Your Favorite Toppings: Serve the casserole with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or diced tomatoes.
