WEDDING PUNCH

Wedding Punch image

I've made this punch for several weddings, parties and showers and it always goes over well! From the 1986 Southern Living Annual Recipes. I haven't made it with champagne, but I am sure it would be delicous that way! Take time to make the ice ring; it really makes the punch perfect! If you need to make a lot of this, you can make the punch up to the point where you chill the base and instead freeze it. I've made enough for 100 people this way with good results. Also, the original recipe calls for a 28-ounce bottle of tonic water. I just always use the full 1 liter bottle. Preparation time includes a swag on how long it takes to make the ice ring. Cooking time is just the time to combine the base, ice ring and carbonated beverage.

Time 4h10m

Yield 6 quarts, 48 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 small oranges, sliced and seeded
1 (6 ounce) jar maraschino cherries
1 (1 liter) bottle ginger ale
1 (12 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate, diluted
1 (46 ounce) can pineapple juice
1/4 cup lime juice
3/4 cup sugar
1 (1 liter) bottle tonic water, chilled
1 (2 liter) bottle ginger ale, chilled or 2 (25 1/2 ounce) bottles champagne

Steps:

  • Cut orange slices in half. Line bottom of a 6 1/2 cup ring mold with half of orange slices and cherries. (A Bundt pan works just fine for this although you may need more than 1 liter of ginger ale).
  • Pour in a thin layer of ginger ale, and freeze until firm.
  • Arrange remaining orange slices and cherries along side of ring mold, and pour in another thin layer of ginger ale. Freeze until firm.
  • Pour in remainder of ginger ale and freeze until firm.
  • Combine orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, and sugar, stirring until sugar dissolves. Chill mixture. (You can freeze here for use later).
  • Just before serving, pour chilled juice mixture into punch bowl; add tonic water, champagne or additional ginger ale, and ice ring.
  • If you freeze the base, let it thaw completely before making the punch.

Tips:

  • Select a Punch Base: Choose a base liquid such as fruit juice, tea, or sparkling water that complements the flavors of your chosen fruits and spices.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Opt for fresh fruits, herbs, and spices to ensure the best flavor and aroma in your punch.
  • Balance Sweetness and Tartness: Aim for a harmonious balance between sweet and tart flavors to create a refreshing and enjoyable punch.
  • Add a Hint of Spice: Incorporate spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger to enhance the flavors and add a touch of warmth.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Ensure the punch is thoroughly chilled before serving to maintain its refreshing qualities.
  • Garnish Elegantly: Add visually appealing garnishes like fruit slices, mint sprigs, or edible flowers to elevate the presentation.
  • Serve with Ice: Provide plenty of ice to keep the punch cold and dilute it slightly, allowing guests to adjust the strength to their preference.

Conclusion:

Creating a memorable wedding day punch involves careful consideration of flavors, ingredients, and presentation. Start with a solid base liquid, incorporate fresh fruits, herbs, and spices, and strike a balance between sweetness and tartness. Enhance the flavors with a touch of spice and chill the punch thoroughly before serving. Don't forget to garnish elegantly and provide plenty of ice. By following these tips and experimenting with different flavor combinations, you can craft a signature wedding day punch that will delight your guests and leave a lasting impression on your special day.
