GRILLED WEST VIRGINIA SLAWDOG RECIPE

Grilled West Virginia Slawdog Recipe image

Here is my recipe for a slawdog, which is a tasty but improbable construct of bun with a beanless ground beef sauce sometimes forming a bed for the frank, sometimes forming a blanket on top, yellow mustard, and finely chopped creamy sweat-sour green cabbage coleslaw crowning it all in place of the sauerkraut found in New York.

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 all-beef frankfurters
8 buns
2 cups Meathead's All-Purpose Hot Dog Chili
Yellow mustard
1 sweet Vidalia onion, chopped
2 cups sweet-sour creamy coleslaw

Steps:

  • Prep. Prepare the coleslaw (here are two good ones to try: Mayo dressed or sour cream dressed). Prepare the meat sauce.
  • Fire up. Prepare a grill for medium-high heat cooking.
  • Cook. Cook the franks on the grill. Steam the bun.
  • Serve. Put the dog in the bun, top with mustard, then the meat sauce, then the onions, then the slaw. The sequence varies from joint to joint, and I've even seen the meat sauce under the dog, but this is the way I like it. So there.

Tips:

  • To make the best slaw dogs, use fresh, high-quality ingredients.
  • Make sure your hot dogs are fully cooked before assembling the slaw dogs.
  • If you don't have a grill, you can cook your hot dogs in a pan on the stovetop over medium heat.
  • If you want a crispier slaw, refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • Feel free to add your favorite toppings to the slaw dogs, such as ketchup, mustard, relish, or chili.

Conclusion:

Slaw dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a summer cookout or potluck. They are also a great way to use up leftover coleslaw. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a tasty and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
