A&W WHISTLE DOG

A&w Whistle Dog image

I worked at A&W in the Montreal area during my college years and, by far, these were the best "non-steamie" hot dog around! Easy to make and so tasty. In the '70s we used Canadian back bacon - nowadays, they use regular bacon - both taste great. Ohhhhh, the memories :-)

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the whistle dogs will be.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing will make the whistle dogs tough.
  • Chill the dough before shaping: This will help the whistle dogs hold their shape.
  • Use a deep fryer or a large saucepan: You need enough oil to completely submerge the whistle dogs.
  • Don't overcrowd the fryer: This will cause the oil temperature to drop and the whistle dogs will not cook evenly.
  • Fry the whistle dogs until they are golden brown: This will ensure that they are cooked through.
  • Drain the whistle dogs on paper towels: This will help to remove excess oil.
  • Serve the whistle dogs with your favorite toppings: Ketchup, mustard, relish, and onions are all popular choices.

Conclusion:

Whistle dogs are a delicious and versatile snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, give whistle dogs a try. You won't be disappointed.
