Bubble Tea...or Coffee image

This is a very popular Asian beverage! I made this with coffee instead of tea and it was very good! I used the raw, large, black pearl tapioca. You can find these ingredients in Oriental grocery stores.

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 c brewed black tea or very strong coffee
1/2 c raw tapioca pearls
1 can(s) sweetened condensed milk
ice cubes
bubble tea straws

Steps:

  • 1. I used the raw large black pearl tapioca. Follow direction on package to prepare. The trick is to cook the tapioca pearls long enough so that they are chewable when done. This takes about 1 hour of boiling with plenty of water. Then drain and cool them. Place them in a container and pour a can of sweetened condensed milk over them. Scoop about 1/4 cup of them into a glass and add iced coffee or tea and serve with milk and sugar. You'll need the large diameter straws (bubble tea) to be able to suck up the tapioca pearls while drinking. They taste similar to gummy bears, but softer.

This recipe is a waste of time. The drink is bland and the tapioca pearls are hard.

I've tried this recipe a few times and I'm still not sure what to think of it. The coffee and tea flavors don't really seem to go together.

This drink is a bit too sweet for my taste, but I can see how someone with a sweet tooth would enjoy it.

I'm not a big fan of bubble tea, but this recipe is a nice compromise for someone who wants a coffee drink with a little something extra.

I tried this recipe with black tea and it was amazing! The coffee flavor was still strong, but the tea added a nice floral note. I also used honey instead of brown sugar syrup, which gave the drink a more subtle sweetness.

I've never been a big fan of bubble tea, but this recipe changed my mind. The coffee and tea flavors are perfectly balanced, and the tapioca pearls are a delightful addition. I'll definitely be making this again.
