Tastes just like apple pie but doesn't have any apples...my sister in law made this for chemistry class in high school in March 2003, and my mother in law shared the recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pie pastry for 9 inch double crust pie
2 c water
1 1/2 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
25 buttery round crackers (ritz)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp butter

Steps:

  • 1. Oven to 450 degrees. Roll out pastry and set aside. Bring water to boil in large saucepan. In a small bowl mix together sugar and cream of tartar. Add mixture to boiling water. Stir, then add crackers, one at a time. Boil for 3 min but do not stir. Pour cracker mixture into pastry lined pie pan. Sprinkle crackers with cinnamon and dot with butter or margarine. Cover with top pastry. Seal edges and cut steam vents in top. Bake in preheated oven for 30 min, until crust is golden brown. may need to cover top pastry partway through baking to prevent overbrowning.

I followed the instructions exactly and my pie turned out perfectly! The crust was flaky and the filling was delicious. I will definitely be making this pie again.

This is the worst apple pie I have ever had! The crust was soggy and the filling was bland. I will never be making this pie again.
