My mom made these family favorites when I was growing up. Sliced thin, these cookies are crispy and chewy; sliced thick, they have a cakelike texture. They make an attractive baked gift. -Kathryn Wilkins, Norfolk, Virginia

I had some trouble getting the pastry to roll up without cracking. I think I might have needed to let it rest for longer before rolling it.

These pinwheels were a little too sweet for my taste. I think I would have preferred them with a less sweet filling.

I'm not a big fan of dates, but I really enjoyed these pinwheels. The filling was sweet and gooey, but not too overpowering.

I love that these pinwheels can be made ahead of time. I usually make them the night before and then bake them in the morning.

I've made these pinwheels a few times now and they always turn out great. The filling is sweet and gooey, and the pastry is flaky and buttery.
