Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 c butter
1/2 c finely chopped pecans
1/2 c sugar
1 box yellow cake mix
1 (20oz) can(s) sliced apples, drain well
1 c sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. In a bowl, cut the butter into the dry cake mix until crumbly.
  • 3. Mix in pecans.
  • 4. Press the mixture lightly into an ungreased 9 x 13 inch baking dish building up a slight edge.
  • 5. Bake 10 minutes.
  • 6. Take the pan out of the oven and carefully arrange apple slices on the warm crust.
  • 7. Mix sugar, cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. salt. Sprinkle this over the apples.
  • 8. Blend sour cream, egg and 1/4 tsp. salt together.
  • 9. Drizzle over the apples then spread lightly with a spoon to cover.
  • 10. Bake for 25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Do not over bake.
  • 11. You can serve this warm but I prefer to let it stand for 2 hours so the topping isn't so runny.

Next time, I'll try adding some chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping for a little extra crunch.

I substituted brown sugar for the granulated sugar in the topping and it added a wonderful depth of flavor.
