Healthier Sugar Cookie Frosting image

Using low-fat milk and natural no trans-fat shortening make this great frosting recipe healthier. If desired, use natural food dye to color the frosting.

4 cups confectioners' sugar
½ cup natural, no trans-fat shortening
5 tablespoons low-fat (1%) milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 dash natural food coloring, if desired

Steps:

  • Beat confectioners' sugar and shortening together in a large bowl until smooth. Gradually mix in milk and vanilla extract with an electric mixer, until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring.
