MY FAMILY'S FAVORITE: MISSISSIPPI GREEN BEANS image

What makes Mississippi greens beans so irresistible? The secret is in the sauce. The butter, EVOO, bacon, brown sugar and soy cook into a thick, sweet, smoky, salty syrup that melts into the beans during slow cooking and makes them over the top delicious. They're my family's favorite green beans, so I make them all the time....

Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4 stick butter (not margarine)
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 c brown sugar
2 Tbsp soy sauce
6 can(s) green beans, drained
6 slice bacon, diced or chopped into small pieces

Steps:

  • 1. In a small saucepan, add oil, butter, and diced bacon.
  • 2. Heat over medium heat until butter melts and bacon is cooked and just crisped. Stir well.
  • 3. Add brown sugar and soy; stirring until smooth.
  • 4. OVEN: Bake at 350 degrees, covered, for 30 minutes and then uncovered for 15-20 minutes.
  • 5. SLOW COOKER: Cook on low 6-7 hours or high 4-5 hours.
