Yield Makes 6 (first-course) servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound hot Italian sausages, casings removed
1/2 cup chopped shallots
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1 14 1/2-ounce can diced tomatoes in juice
1 cup canned low-salt chicken broth
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
4 pounds littleneck clams (about 3 dozen), scrubbed
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add sausages; sauté until almost cooked through, breaking up with fork, about 10 minutes. Add shallots, garlic and dried red pepper. Sauté until sausage is cooked through, about 5 minutes. Mix in tomatoes with juices, broth and vinegar. Add clams, cover and boil until clams open, about 8 minutes (discard any clams that do not open). Mix in basil.

I didn't like this dish at all. The flavors just didn't work for me.

This dish was a bit bland. I think I'll add some more spices next time.

The clams were a bit overcooked, but the sauce was delicious. I'll be sure to cook the clams for less time next time.

This dish was a bit too spicy for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. I'll use a milder sausage next time.

I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, but I still enjoyed this dish. The flavors of the sausage and clams were enough to make up for it.

This dish is a great way to use up leftover clams. I always have a few extra clams after making clam chowder, so I use them to make this dish.

I'm not a big fan of spicy food, so I used a mild Italian sausage. It was still delicious!

I love how easy this dish is to make. I usually have all the ingredients on hand, so it's a great weeknight meal.

The clams were cooked perfectly and the sauce was flavorful. I added a bit of white wine to the sauce and it really enhanced the flavor.

This dish was easy to make and packed with flavor. I used a spicy Italian sausage and it gave the dish a nice kick. I'll definitely be making this again!

Absolutely delicious! The flavors of the spicy sausage, tomatoes, and clams come together perfectly. I served it over pasta and it was a hit with my family.
