Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 375°.
- 2. Prepare apples: slice, core and peel (can leave peels on, if you desire). Cut the apple slices in half cross-wise, so they make a small 'chunk'.
- 3. Unroll the bread stick dough, and separate into 8 bread sticks. Cut each one in half cross-wise, to make 16 pieces of bread. If you can't find refrigerated bread sticks (next to the refrigerated biscuits), you can substitute croissant rolls ... they're just as good, slightly different texture, and bake in a little dumpling shape, instead of the rolled bundle shape. Prepare them the say way you do the bread sticks, just cutting them in half, to make smaller triangles.
- 4. Place 3-4 apple chunks at the end of each piece of dough; roll up. Arrange the little bundles in a 9x13" baking pan.
- 5. Remove the zest from the orange; you will use one teaspoon of this. Juice the orange, and pour the juice into the bottom of the baking dish, around the bottoms of the apple bundles.
- 6. Combine Butter Buds with hot water, as directed on the package. Pour the liquified butter mix over the bundles. *Butter Buds can be found in the spice, diet or baking goods aisle of your grocery store. If you can't find Butter Buds, just use melted butter or margarine, about a 1/3 or 1/4 cup, or spray on little spritzes of liquid butter.
- 7. Mix the orange zest, sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle over the bundles.
- 8. Bake 25 - 30 minutes, until golden brown and puffy. Serve warm, with light whipped topping, or ice cream.
- 9. *Butter Buds can be found in the spice, diet or baking goods aisle of your grocery store. If you can't find refrigerated bread sticks (next to the refrigerated biscuits), you can substitute croissant rolls ... they're just as good, slightly different texture, and bake in a little dumpling shape, instead of the rolled bundle shape.
