APPLE MINT TEA

Apple Mint Tea image

I love tea. I love apples. This only makes sense for them to come together in this great tea. This makes enough to serve to others, but I usually end up saving it all for myself. You can drink it hot, just skip the step about the ice. I prefer this particular tea over ice though. I sometimes add a bit of honey as well. Note that you need 1/2 cup of mint leaves, plus 4 sprigs of mint for garnish.

Elma Çayi (Turkish Apple Tea) image

Provided by C G

Categories     Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 apples, washed well and cut into quarters, do not remove the peel, core or seeds (variety and color not specified although red apples were tested)
1 orange, flesh of (zest it first and use the zest for garnish)
1 piece of orange peel (about 2-3" inch strip)
1 stick cinnamon
2 whole cloves
4 c filtered water
1 tsp rose water, to taste (my addition and optional)
ice cubes
fresh mint, for garnish
orange zest, for garnish
sugar, to sweeten (if desired)

Steps:

  • 1. Place the apples, oranges, orange peel, cinnamon stick, whole cloves and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • 2. Reduce the heat to LOW and simmer until the apples are very soft, about 30 minutes.
  • 3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a non-reactive bowl pushing gently with the back of a wooden spoon to extract all the liquid. Stir in the rose water. Set aside to cool briefly about 10 minutes.
  • 4. Pour the juice again [through a fine mesh strainer] into the drinking glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with fresh mint, orange zest and sweeten to taste. Makes about 3 (8 ounce) servings.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that are good for baking, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help the apples cook evenly and prevent the skins from toughening up.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook quickly and evenly.
  • Use a variety of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves are all classic apple pie spices, but you can also experiment with other spices, such as cardamom, ginger, or allspice.
  • Don't overcook the apples: They should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving: This will help the filling set and the crust to become flaky.

Conclusion:

Apple tea is a delicious and refreshing beverage that can be enjoyed hot or cold. It is also a good source of antioxidants and other nutrients. If you are looking for a healthy and tasty way to enjoy your apples, apple tea is a great option. With so many different recipes to choose from, you are sure to find one that you love.
