Tips:

  • Choose the right apples. Use a variety of apples that are firm and tart, such as Granny Smith, Braeburn, or Honeycrisp. These apples will hold their shape well during cooking and will give the candy a nice tart flavor.
  • Peel and core the apples. This will help the applesauce to cook evenly and will prevent the candy from becoming too thick.
  • Cook the applesauce until it is thick and smooth. This will take about 30 minutes over medium heat. Stir the applesauce frequently to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Add sugar and spices to taste. Start with 1 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, then add more to taste. You can also add other spices, such as nutmeg, ginger, or allspice.
  • Spread the applesauce candy on a baking sheet. Use a spatula to spread the candy into a thin layer. The candy should be about 1/4-inch thick.
  • Bake the candy until it is dry and firm. This will take about 3-4 hours at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Flip the candy halfway through baking to ensure that it dries evenly.
  • Cut the candy into pieces. Once the candy is cool, cut it into small pieces using a sharp knife.
  • Store the candy in an airtight container. Applesauce candy can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Applesauce candy is a delicious and easy-to-make candy that is perfect for fall. It is a great way to use up extra apples, and it is also a fun and festive treat to share with friends and family. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make your own delicious applesauce candy at home.
