Tips:

  • Select the right apples: Choose firm, ripe apples for the best flavor and texture. Some good varieties for applesauce include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
  • Peel and core the apples: This is the most time-consuming part of making applesauce, but it's worth it to get the best results. Use a sharp knife to peel the apples, then use an apple corer to remove the cores.
  • Cook the apples until they're soft: You can cook the apples in a pot on the stovetop, in a slow cooker, or in an Instant Pot. Whichever method you choose, cook the apples until they're soft enough to mash easily.
  • Add your favorite spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice are classic applesauce spices, but you can also add other spices like ginger, cardamom, or cloves. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Sweeten the applesauce to taste: If you like your applesauce sweet, add sugar or honey to taste. You can also use a natural sweetener like maple syrup or stevia.
