DON'T YOU DARE GIVE ME INSTANT - BANANA PUDDING SUPREME

Don't You Dare Give Me Instant - Banana Pudding Supreme image

My Granny's banana pudding - the only one that's worth me spending the calories on! As the recipe title suggests, I won't touch the kind made with instant banana pudding - and don't give me anything with meringue on it, either...this doesn't last much more than a day around here. Chilling time is not included in time estimates.

Time 40m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3/4 cup sugar
4 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip
1 (12 ounce) box vanilla wafers
3 large bananas

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and flour; add milk and beaten egg - whisk to combine.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla.
  • Cool completely.
  • Stir sour cream into pudding.
  • Layer in this manner; 1/2 of the wafers, 1/2 of the bananas, 1/2 of the pudding, and 1/2 of the cool whip.
  • Repeat layers.
  • Refrigerate approximately 8 hours or overnight before serving.

Tips:

  • Use ripe bananas for the best flavor. Overripe bananas will give your pudding a more intense banana flavor.
  • If you want a creamier pudding, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Add a layer of crushed vanilla wafers or graham crackers to the bottom of the pudding for a crunchy texture.
  • Top the pudding with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a decadent finish.
  • Make your pudding ahead of time and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

Conclusion:

Banana pudding is a classic Southern dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its creamy texture, sweet banana flavor, and crunchy vanilla wafer or graham cracker crust, banana pudding is a perfect dessert for any occasion. Whether you are having a family gathering, a potluck, or just want a sweet treat, banana pudding is sure to be a hit.
