The Ultimate Waffle Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: all purpose flour, baking powder, kosher salt, whole milk, buttermilk, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, large eggs, sugar, nonstick cooking spray, butter, maple syrup

Provided by Tikeyah Whittle

Categories     Breakfast

Time 30m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup whole milk
½ cup buttermilk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs, separated
⅓ cup sugar
nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
butter, for serving
maple syrup, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat a waffle iron to medium-high.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla, and egg yolks. Whisk until the batter just comes together (there will be some lumps).
  • Add the egg whites to a medium bowl and beat with an electric hand mixer until foamy. With the mixer running, gradually add the sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter until just combined.
  • Spray the heated waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray. Ladle the batter into the waffle iron, close the lid, and cook according to manufacturer's instructions until the waffle is golden brown and crisp, 5-6 minutes. Transfer the waffle to a plate and repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the waffles hot, with butter and maple syrup alongside.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients will produce the best-tasting waffles. Make sure your milk, eggs, and butter are fresh and at room temperature.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the waffles tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Let the batter rest: Letting the batter rest for a few minutes before cooking will allow the ingredients to absorb the liquid and produce a more evenly cooked waffle.
  • Cook the waffles on a hot waffle iron: A hot waffle iron will produce crispy waffles. Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Don't overcrowd the waffle iron: Overcrowding the waffle iron will make the waffles cook unevenly. Cook only as many waffles as the waffle iron can accommodate.
  • Serve the waffles immediately: Waffles are best served immediately after they are cooked. They can be served with a variety of toppings, such as butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Waffles are a delicious and versatile breakfast food. They can be made with a variety of ingredients and toppings, making them a great option for any occasion. With a little practice, you can make perfect waffles every time.
