THE BEST CARAMEL APPLES

The Best Caramel Apples image

When I was searching for a recipe to make homemade caramel apples for the very first time, a close friend gave me this amazing and fairly easy recipe. My family and friends loved these delicious treats! Sprinkle with nuts or whatever you desire while the caramel is still warm (work quickly, the caramel sets VERY fast).

Categories     Desserts     Specialty Dessert Recipes     Caramel Apple Recipes

Time 2h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 large tart apples
8 wooden chopsticks for handles
1 cup butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Dip apples in boiling water for a few seconds, then dry with paper towels to remove any wax from the peels. Set apples aside; when completely cool, insert a wooden chopstick firmly into the bottom of each apple for a handle.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Stir butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes; stir constantly to prevent burning. A teaspoon of the syrup, dropped in a glass of cold water, should form a firm ball. Remove caramel from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot caramel to completely coat the apple and about 1/2 inch of the wooden handle. Sprinkle apples with any desired toppings while still hot. Let caramel apples cool on the parchment paper. Use caution, caramel is very hot.

She gives credit to Examiner.Com, from Anne Marie Hurley, Livonia, Michigan. I took the liberty of tweeking this just a little. What makes this cake killer is the caramel frosting you make and pour over the cake. Make the cake let it cool , make the caramel sauce and pour the hot caramel sauce over the cake. Uh huh, gooey delicious caramel over a moist apple filled cake. It's easy, fast to make and incredibly delicious. This is a keeper!

¾ cup vanilla ice cream
½ cup butter

Steps:

  • Mix white sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl.
  • Roll out 1 thawed loaf into a large rectangle. Brush half of the melted butter evenly over dough. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over butter. Tips:

  • Use the right sugar. Granulated sugar is the most common type of sugar used for caramel, but you can also use brown sugar, maple sugar, or honey. Each type of sugar will give the caramel a slightly different flavor and color.
  • Cook the sugar slowly. Don't rush the process of making caramel. Cook the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the desired color. If you cook the sugar too quickly, it will burn.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot. A heavy-bottomed pot will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the caramel from burning.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself. Caramel is very hot, so be careful not to touch it or the pot with your bare hands. Use a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula to stir the caramel.
  • Let the caramel cool before using it. Caramel can be used as a sauce, topping, or filling for a variety of desserts. Let the caramel cool slightly before using it, so that it has a chance to thicken.

Conclusion:

Making caramel is a simple process, but it does require some patience and attention to detail. By following these tips, you can make perfect caramel every time. Whether you're using it as a sauce, topping, or filling, caramel is a delicious and versatile ingredient that will add a touch of sweetness and richness to your desserts.
